Surgical Technology
With the recession, jobs lost and a faltering economy, finding a recession-proof occupation could seem next to impossible. There is a silver lining to this dark cloud, though, and it relies on the healthcare industry. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the healthcare sector added 355,700 jobs in 2008, and that amount is only going to increase in the coming years.
The BLS also predicts that the healthcare industry will generate 3 million new wage and salary jobs between 2006 and 2016, more than any other industry. Seven of the 20 fastest-growing occupations are healthcare-related, including surgical technology.
Of the new jobs created in the healthcare industry, surgical technicians will see an increase of 24% between 2006 and 2016. Surgical technicians – or scrubs – commonly work alongside surgeons and assist them through surgical procedures.
For more information about starting your recession-proof career in the surgical technology field, contact Omega Institute at 1-800-765-5554.
